Short breaks in Cardiff and the Vale
Short Breaks Wales supports unpaid carers living in Wales to access personalised, flexible and creative short breaks. Its objective is to improve carer resilience, wellbeing support and the sustainability of the carer’s caring relationship.
Funded by Welsh Government, Short Breaks Wales is part of the Short Breaks Scheme for unpaid carers and aims to enable 30,000 carers to take a break from caring.
To be eligible for a grant, you must be an unpaid carer and support someone living in Cardiff or the Vale of Glamorgan.
Grants
The Carers Accreditation & Grants Team offers carers grants to access flexible short breaks through the following 3 Grant Categories:
Overnight/weekend breaks away for the Carer/s – on their own or with the person/s they care for - E.g. Spa breaks, overnight theatre breaks, city breaks, parks and lodges, up to the value of £400.
Day trips to support the carer/s – on their own or with the person/s they care for- E.g. Theme parks, Zoos, Festivals, Markets, Tourist attractions and events, up to the value of £200.
Subscriptions/memberships/passes to sporting & leisure activities - E.g. Netflix, Audible, season tickets, concerts, theatres, National Trust membership, up to the value of £250.
Please note
Due to limited funding, only 1 application per household can be awarded. Applicants who received a Short Breaks Grant within the last 12 months cannot be awarded the grant again.
Grant awards can only be issued in the form of vouchers, gift cards, or direct purchases. Awards cannot be granted in cash or via BACS transfers.
