Respite for carers

Our respite service involves our staff providing tailored, professional care support to people, at home or out in the community. It enables unpaid carers to have time away from their caring role, secure in the knowledge that the person they look after is happy, safe and supported.

East London/Essex

In East London/Essex our respite service is currently available in Epping Forest, Havering, Harlow and Redbridge.

This service is flexible and personalised according to individual needs. Firstly, we'll speak to both the person being cared for and the person who has been providing care – and invite both parties to talk about their needs and circumstances. Then, we'll draw up individualised plans for care suited to their exacting requirements.

Respite care be provided over a period of a few hours, days or weeks, and may include overnight care.

Dependent on your location, we can help with:

  • Tailored care packages for adults and children
  • Specialised dementia care
  • Specialised cancer care
  • Day care provision (mild to moderate dementia)

Funding and availability for this service may vary per location. Please contact us for more information.

West London

Are you a carer of someone aged over 50 in the Borough of Ealing? Are you in need of some time to yourself, or would the person you care for like to meet new friends?

If so, you may be interested in our respite and befriending services.
Ealing

TuVida is part of the Carer's Pathway Consortium – a partnership of six local charities working to enable people who care for older adults to take short breaks/periods of respite.

Our Short Breaks service involves us providing day care to older adults in Ealing. This in turn enables any family members or friends who usually provide regular unpaid care to have time off.

We provide either free or paid-for respite services depending on the cared-for person’s needs:

  • Befriending service: This service is free of charge and is delivered by one of our volunteers
  • Day care service: This service is self-funded and is delivered by one of our CQC regulated support workers. This option is required should the person being cared for need help with medication or toileting.
Kensington and Chelsea

TuVida is part of the ‘My Care My Way’ service. Our provisions include:

  • Befriending service: Up to six sessions can be available, free-of-charge. During this time a support worker will visit you in your home to provide you with companionship whilst supporting you to identify and access activities that you may enjoy attending.
Our staff are there to help you feel more connected with your local community and can accompany you to these activities if necessary.
  • Respite for carers: Up to six sessions can be available, free-of-charge.
The aim is to enable the carer to have time away from their caring role to do something that they enjoy. In the meantime, one of our professional care support workers will visit the person requiring care and spend meaningful time with them. This could involve a sitting service and friendly chat, or taking them out to an activity of their choice.

Both of the above services can be accessed following a referral from your GP surgery. Once we receive a referral, we will contact you to arrange an assessment. We will then create a support plan with you and agree a day and time for the service to start.

If you would like to access either the respite or befriending service by private arrangement, please contact us.
